Happy Sunday! We've been a little quiet here in the middle of our campaign but that's because we were busy making our FIRST batch of bean to bar chocolate in the new shop. A small shipment of beans from Fiji had the honor of being the first batch (watch for these bars at this Thursday's Exeter Farmer's Market, next Sunday's Newburyport Farmers Market, and also as a special dessert menu offering at Black Trumpet).

With 2 weeks left in this campaign, we have a steep goal to reach: we've  met our initial funding goal of 12,000 (hooray!!) but we'd really like to meet our stretch goal of 16,000. This stretch will enable us to place a big bulk order of cacao, so that we can get a more economical head start towards offering a wide range of cacao origins. This means that we have $3115 left to go. That's a big number, but if we've learned anything on this campaign it's that all the little contributions matter. So we're going to focus on getting 50 more people to back our campaign. Every contribution is appreciated - large or small.

Please help us spread the word so we can reach our goal. Thank you!!

My friend Susan wrote to me, "I NEED THIS SHIRT."

And I have to say, so do I! "Adventure is worthwhile in itself" is my favorite Amelia Earhart quote. It captures what I love about being in and exploring the world: there is really nothing that matches the experience of going out into the yonder to see and do what is there to be seen and done. So I've added it to our Indiegogo list of perks (it comes with a chocolate bar, of course).

Please check out the lovely article Susan wrote about finding my path to making chocolate from bean-to-bar.

We're only $655 away from our funding goal! I'm still pinching myself that our funding has happened so quickly. THANK YOU for your support and enthusiasm and love for all things chocolate.

A couple of notes about our campaign:

1. When our campaign ends we'll be using an app called Backerkit to collect your shipping preferences and payment for shipping. You'll have the option to select FREE pickup in our Epping store (which I hope you choose if you're in the area because we really want to thank you in person!). You may also opt to have your items shipped and make your payment for shipping. We'll post an update when the Backerkit email goes out, so you can keep your eyes open for it.

2. In Backerkit you'll have the option to add on single items that you wish you could have (like T-shirt, hoodie, hat, or mug, and of course another chocolate bar).

3. There's one more item on our Indiegogo campaign that I'd like to draw your attention to: the Tasting Party for 8. Our new tiny factory has a huge teak table where we can host tastings and private events. The Tasting Party is a FANTASTIC birthday party - BYO wine and other beverages, and I'll guide you and your guests through a tasting and discussion of how chocolate is made.

Thank you!!!

Our new chocolate grinder is 90% funded!

WOW, we are floored by our chocolate family's support! We're just 2 weeks into our Indiegogo campaign and we're already 90% of the way to our goal of raising enough money to buy a new chocolate grinder! THANK YOU! Please keep sharing the link... we'd love to reach our initial funding goal early.

An update on the chocolate factory: We are beginning to roast our first batches of cacao for bean-to-bar chocolate in the new space THIS WEEK! It feels good to finally be filling the street with the aroma of freshly roasted cacao... Our neighbors really have no idea what's in store for them! ;) We don't have official store hours yet, but if you're in the area we hope that you'll poke your head in and say hello!

Here's what's next for our Indiegogo campaign: We are starting to think that we will surpass our initial goal, and so we have set a “stretch” goal of an additional $4000. If we achieve our stretch goal, in addition to the shiny new grinder, we'll be able to place a bulk order (at a reduced wholesale rate) for a new cacao origin. Ordering cacao in large quantities is key to being profitable because the cost drops considerably with large volumes. To help us reach this goal we are asking that you to please continue to share our campaign link with all of your chocolate-loving friends. If we reach our stretch goal, we'll send a sample of the new chocolate origin to all of our campaign backers.

Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We can't wait to share more chocolate with you!
